Humble Beginnings
Back in 2003 Ivan Stanojevic recruited Justin Laing to help him create a Point-Of-Sale and Inventory Management system for independent bicycle retailers. After about six months of development, MerchantOS was up and running in Slough’s Bike Shoppe in San Jose, CA. The first web based retail system was born.
By the end of 2005 Ivan and Justin knew they had created something pretty cool. They were running the daily operations of over 20 bicycle retailers throughout the United States. Ivan and Justin realized the system they had created was now ready for a wider audience. In the summer of 2006 MerchantOS launched as the next generation retail software service.
MerchantOS is now focused on providing retailers with software that makes their lives easier. With new enhancements and customers every month the future is bright for our young company.
Our Proud Founders
Ivan Stanojevic CEO
Ivan was born with an entrepreneurial spirit. He grew up in San Jose, CA and attended San Jose State University where he received a degree in Management Information Systems. While in high school and college Ivan worked as a mechanic for Slough’s bike shop in San Jose. During college, Ivan rode for the Team San Jose cycling team. ‘Work hard and play hard’ is Ivan’s motto. He enjoys rock climbing, surfing, mountain biking, and hiking. When he’s not working you’ll find him out on some rock or in the waves with his wife Erica.
Justin Laing Software Architect
Justin was born and raised in Santa Cruz and attended UC Santa Cruz where he earned degrees in both Computer Science and Biology. He caught the entrepreneurial bug soon after college and teamed up with Ivan to create MerchantOS. Justin can now be found in the beautiful town of Olympia, Washington with his lovely wife Jessica, daughter Maya, son Sebastian, and dog Chai. When Justin isn’t working you’ll often find him surfing in the frigid waters of the northwest.
“You guys run the best customer service I have ever seen. Don’t let up.” Pricebusters Inc. – Dalton, Georgia

Christina Gilpin VP Customer Relations
Christina was born and raised in the heart of Silicon Valley, San Jose. After a few re-locations, she found herself in the beautiful state of Washington and ready to jump back into the work force after enjoying some quality time staying home with her daughter. Christina covers support and sales for MerchantOS and anything else she can get her hands on. She is likely to be one of the first voices you will hear and become familiar with as we work with you while setting up your account. Outside of work, Christina balances the rest as a soccer mom to her 4 year old, a never-ending student and a lover of all things musical and artistic (including tattoos!)

Scott Kern VP Operations
Scott is the old man of the team (ok.. he’s only 1 year older than Justin). He was born and raised in California and ended up in Washington after 4 years in the Army. Shortly after graduating from Saint Martin’s Univeristy, he was snatched up by Justin and Ivan to work at MerchantOS. Scott can be found importing data into customers accounts, testing, and answering customers advanced questions. Scott enjoys time with the family, camping, fishing, and paintball.

Nathan Horter VP Engineering
Nate grew up in south central Missouri and went to high school in Minnesota. He came to Washington to attend The Evergreen State College and graduated with a degree in Chemistry. He’s always had an interest in computers and was excited to join the MerchantOS team, working behind the scenes adding new features, squashing bugs, and making the system better. When not writing code he’s usually supporting the Seattle Sounders and spending time outdoors with his girlfriend Sarah and their dog Elle.

Murdoc Trammell Customer Support Hero
No one really knows where Murdoc came from. We’re pretty sure he lived in Germany as an army brat for 15 years, but he speaks a surprisingly small amount of German, so who knows. He came to Washington in 2004 and got his degree from The Evergreen State College with a focus on mathematics. When he’s not busy brewing beer with Nate, catching up to Christina in the amount of money spent on tattoos, going to dance parties with Bryn, or dragging Scott to LAN parties he’s usually hopped up on energy drinks doing some competitive PC gaming.

Bryn Harris Customer Support Heroine
Bryn was born in Boston but has lived in the Northwest her whole life and loves the rain. She has ended up in Olympia (much to her surprise) for six years, four of which were spent at The Evergreen State College. When she isn’t talking to her awesome MerchantOS clients, she likes to read, knit until there is no tomorrow, and go out dancing.

Luke Bowerman Developer
Luke’s the sole Washington-native of the company. He’s been doing some form of web development for over 12 years. Luke joined the MerchantOS team to help add some UI-polish here and there, develop new features and get some mobile-friendly functionality going. Outside of work Luke spends time with his wife Whitney and daughter Poppy and occasionally attempts get out on the road for good long ride on his super-sweet Scott Addict (thank you Whitney!).
